An Uncommon Story

The Idea - To transport and transcend

In the 1920s and 30s, Marseille was a city of arrivals — a port where travelers from every corner of the world stepped off ships carrying stories, secrets, and a little bit of reinvention. The Uncommoner was born from that same spirit, reimagined for the modern-day traveler landing not on the docks of France, but on the shores of Cape Cod. We saw a parallel too good to ignore: then, as now, travel has always been about becoming — trying on a different version of yourself, if only for a weekend. So we built a hotel around that idea. Every guest who walks through our doors carries their own story of arrival, and we wanted a space that could hold all of them. That's where our four archetypes were born — The Visionary, The Voyager, The Moroccan, and The Madame — each one a different lens on the traveler's journey, so that no two stays ever feel quite the same. This is a common ground for uncommon characters.

The Aesthetic - Something Different for the Cape

Cape Cod has a look. Weathered shingles, blue and white stripes, anchors on everything. We love that world — but it isn't ours. From the beginning, we knew The Uncommoner needed to feel like a departure from the expected, the same way a port city like Marseille felt like a departure for the travelers who passed through it a century ago. So instead of nautical, we leaned into worldly. Instead of predictable, we chose eclectic. The result is a space that still feels warm, sun-soaked, and unmistakably coastal — but layered with pattern, texture, and objects that hint at faraway places. It's elevated without taking itself too seriously. Fun, but never generic. A hotel that looks like it has stories to tell, because it does.

The Heart - Branding at every turn

If the design sets the stage, branding is what brings the story to life in every corner of the property. From the moment we began developing The Uncommoner, we knew this couldn't just be a hotel with a nice logo — it needed a fully realized world guests could step into. That meant thinking about branding not as decoration, but as narrative: custom artwork and graphics that echo each archetype, programming and guest touchpoints designed around the four characters, and small, intentional details throughout the space that reward a closer look. Every element — from the artwork on the walls to the language on our menus — was built to transport guests just a little further from home, and just a little closer to the version of themselves they came here to find. It's how a hotel stops being a place you stay, and becomes a story you're part of.

The Visionary's Table

Every hotel needs a beating heart, and ours belongs to The Visionary. Of our four archetypes, she was always the dreamer, the one who reads the stars before she reads a room, who trusts intuition as much as instinct. So we asked ourselves: what if she didn't just inspire a space, but built one herself? Gypsy Sol is the answer — imagined as The Visionary's own restaurant and café, conjured within the walls of The Uncommoner as if she'd opened it herself. It's where her astrology-and-tarot-inspired sensibility comes fully to life: a zodiac-driven cocktail program mixed with the same intuition she trusts in everything else, and a menu of Mediterranean small plates that feels gathered from her travels rather than plotted on a spreadsheet. But Gypsy Sol does more than round out her story — it starts to build a town. As guests move between The Mercantile, Le Jardin Bleu, the firepits, and now Gypsy Sol, the hotel stops feeling like a single property and starts feeling like a place with its own neighborhoods, each shaped by a different character. The Visionary simply opened the first door.
